COMMUNITY SUPPORT SOLUTIONS
This is our project in the Ethekwini municipality; Tsebo was awarded this project so that we could improve the cleanliness of the city and also assist with combating crime.
The project is highly involved with promoting environmental sustainability and was profiled on the COP 17 programme.
On the roof of the site there are vegetables tunnels, a wormery and solar panels power computers in the offices below as well as heating the water in the building’s geysers.
Other vegetables are planted in the old, recycled 44 gallon drums and tyres.
There is also another programme nearby, where we assist people who recycle cardboard boxes.
This project is based in Umkhumbane and is being conducted together with an organisation that looks after the elderly.
The Tsebo Foundation started the project by establishing a vegetable garden for these people.
During the time when the Priority Zone was profiled on TV by the COP 17 committee, it was agreed that this type of recycling and planting on the roofs of buildings should be introduced to other communities.
Tsebo assisted the people at Umkhumbane to start this process because they were already involved in gardening.
